This was a letter written by a  lovely couple who found us on an internet search.  They required to match the character of their 1880's home, and a custom door was the only solution. It makes our hearts glow, knowing that these doors will outlast us all.  Our heartfelt thanks go to  ALL  who care enough to conserve our built heritage. Read their letter published in  Edifice Old Home magazine. heritage door restoration build install kingston"When we purchased our home in downtown Kingston two years ago, we knew that restoring it would take considerable time and effort. So with two young kids and limited free time, we have plugged away at it, piece by piece, and have had the pleasure of seeing it slowly progress from a carved-up apartment building towards a lovely, three-storey family home. Late in 2011, we decided to tackle the front door which, while already grand, was in such a state of decay and disrepair that the temperature outside was essentially the same as that within – a real problem, mid-winter! We found Historic Building Co. online and were immediately impressed by their expertise with this type of home and their restoration work. Seeing that their knowledge and skills far surpassed our own, we put the project into their capable hands. Historic Building Co’s patience never seemed to wear thin, despite many rounds of discussion on everything from style to size to hardware to glass to colour to... you name it. They accommodated all of our questions and changes and more changes with grace and skill. The doors were installed earlier this year and the results are outstanding. Historic Building Co. incorporated in all of our requests, including some complicated and time-consuming inset rosettes;  and the doors, while new, look as though they could have been there a century ago. The change to the outside of the house is subtle yet completely dramatic at the same time, and is certainly something we could not have achieved with an 'off the shelf' solution.” Emma J.  ~ Kingston, Ontario ........................................................................................................................ Article from Kingston Life magazine. kingston life historic building co ........................................................................................................................ Recently I learned from Historic Building Co. how quickly and affordable it is to transform a room with custom mouldings and skilled hands. And all of this: within the space already available . In this Thousand Islands home, a boring hallway of drywall and stock painted trims was transformed into a welcoming Georgian-panelled foyer. Mass-production mouldings were removed, and the drywall concealed, to create a dramatic interior using time-honored stile-and-rail Georgian panelling (like a kitchen cabinet door) and Victorian brackets. Rather than the typical formality found with painted panelling, this pine woodwork was stained to lend a rustic, informal Canadiana feel. And creating relaxed, rustic charm was what this renovation was all about. ...READ FULL ARTICLE
